What is imperative in our culture? What is trending in our culture?
Are they the same? Do all imperatives trend? Are all trends imperative?
The TRENDING IMPERATIVES Project brings theater artists to examine the space in, around and between “trending” and “imperative”.

"The World is Ready"Music by Lucas Syed, Lyrics by Sarah Ziegler
Performed by Christiana Little, Katie Palmer, and Sarah Ziegler “The World is Ready” is our first stab at a song from a musical in progress about the Bronte siblings (in collaboration with Paul Bedard and Katie Palmer of Theatre in Asylum). In this tune, Charlotte and her sisters Emily and Anne adopt masculine pen names, or “noms de guerre,” hoping that disguising their sex might increase their chances of publication. We are thrilled to be developing this piece with Theatre in Asylum! [email protected]; [email protected] |

Theater in Asylum (TIA) is a New York-based theater company founded in 2010 to challenge and empower our community. TIA joyfully pursues a rigorous research and an ensemble-driven approach to theater-making. We create performances to investigate our past, interpret our present, and imagine our future. We prize space to process, space to question—asylum—for ourselves and our community.
